More than a Dance May 4 UK screening programme

Last November, More Than a Dance opened the London Baltic Film Festival with a sold-out show to rapturous (and for some, even emotional) audience reactions. The documentary was released in Latvian cinemas this March.

The film follows the Canadian Latvian dance group, Daugaviņa, as they prepare for the Latvian Song & Dance Festival. As one of the world’s largest cultural events, with nearly 3x the participants of the Olympic Games, the festival represents the enduring preservation of Latvian culture. More than a Dance captures the group’s journey to Latvia, exploring their search for belonging between two homes, the challenge of maintaining cultural traditions in a globalized world, and their profound reconnection with their roots.

In partnership with the Latvian Embassy in London, we are delighted to screen this acclaimed documentary on Sunday 4th May 2025.

4 May is a significant Latvian National holiday commemorating the day in 1990 when the Declaration of the Restoration of Independence was signed, officially ending the five-decades long occupation of Latvia by the Soviet regime.
